ABOUT "BETWEEN TWO RIVERS"

 

Between Two Rivers can be classified as a realist novel.

Although I describe "Between Two Rivers", a novel based on research, analysis and evaluation, as a realistic novel, I think that it can also be evaluated in the category of detective novels because it tells a crime story with a mystery.

“Between Two Rivers” is a novel based on the correspondence and diaries between a soldier who was on duty in Operation Barbarossa in Germany's Eastern Front during the Second World War and his wife waiting for him in Frankfurt. In this respect, there is no voice of the author in the text. It can be said that this is the most distinctive point that distinguishes it from my other novels in terms of writing. I should also say that I aim to bring reality to the forefront by keeping the text away from the artificiality of classical and romantic sentences.

In this sense, due to the realistic fiction pursued in the novel, besides the fact that the subject is told through ordinary people, what the novel takes place over a period of about six years, in time and space, is historically correct and consistent; basically, it can be said that I tried to convey the events in an objective way, based on research and documents. To put it more clearly, I can say that while I attach importance to the beauty of form and content, I avoid embellishment and pretense in language and expression.

On the other hand, the charcoal drawings that the main character in the novel draws at the end of each diary he wrote during this whole period (between September/39 and May/45), from the beginning of the war to the end of the war, are suitable for the place and the situation he is in. their hidden intentions give signs of their plans for the future. In this respect, the novel has a structure that progresses as a picture-text. (Naturally, I don't think I need to specifically mention that the pictures in the novel were also drawn by me...)

We can only understand what kind of motif this structure reveals at the end of the novel, from the "MOSSAD Report" dated 14.August.1983. Although this report is based on estimations and opinions, it is a report consistent with the letters and diaries in the text. Therefore, the report is a summary of the entire novel.

As a final word, as sherlock Holmes insisted when he was explaining to Dr. Watson, his aide-de-camp, how to run a good detective job, “How many times have I told you; that what remains after eliminating the impossible must be real, no matter how improbable," can perhaps be put forward as one of the main arguments on which this novel is based.
